Lakelse Lake & Jackpine Flats Septic Tank Management Program

The RDKS has commenced planning the Lakelse Lake/Jackpine Flats Septic System Management component of the Liquid Waste Management Plan. The septic system management program will ensure all tanks and disposal fields are properly maintained.

Components of the Program:

  • Educational Program - will target the proper maintenance and operaton of septic systems and drinking water wells.
  • Monitoring Program - surface water and well-water monitoring programs will monitor conditions in Lakelse Lake, Williams Creek, Sockeye Creek and Jackpine Flats groundwater.
  • Septic Management Program - administered by the RDKS, the program would have septic tanks pumped out and inspected periodically (to be determined) to ensure the septic tanks and disposal fields are functioning as well as possible.
  • Working Group - the RDKS has solicited representatives from local community associations and groups to participate in a Septic Tank Management Program Working Group, which will work interatively with the RDKS to develop the details of this program.
