Queensway/Churchill Drive Sewer
The Queensway/Churchill Drive Sewer provides service to the Queensway and Churchill Drive areas. Customers are connected to a STEP - septic tank effluent pumping system. Properties continue to rely on septic tanks but the effluent is pumped into community collection systems. Effluent is treated through aeration lagoons and rapid infiltration basins located near the southern end of Queensway Drive. During construction, the collection system and treatment facility were oversized to accommodate extension of sewer into the Commercial Core area of Thornhill. In addition, a 300mm pipe was installed to receive at some time sewage from the remainder of Thornhill. The lagoon site was chosen for its ability to provide sufficient land for long term expansion.
