Residential Zero Waste Challenge and Curbside Recycling Pilot Project

The City of Terrace and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine have teamed up to offer up to 200 residents on selected routes a unique opportunity to be part of a Zero Waste Challenge.

This Pilot Project was launched in response to requests by many residents for a City-sponsored recycling service and for intensified efforts to reduce waste going to local landfills. The objectives of this project are to:

1. Evaluate participation levels and volumes diverted from landfill based on different recycling service levels (i.e. weekly, bi-weekly, sorted and co-mingled).

2. Evaluate willingness of residents to compost on their property based on level of support provided (technical, financial and educational).

3. Test residential response to water conservation and green shopping education.

4. Determine most effective communication tools for zero waste education and services.
