Terrace Pilot Recycling Depot a big success!
A pilot Community Recycling Depot has been up and running since late November 2011 by the George Little House in Terrace. Materials accepted include mixed paper and cardboard products, metals, and mixed plastics. Organic (compostable) material such as yard waste and food scraps (no meat and oil) are also collected at the site.
Tara Irwin, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Terrace reports that the bins are well-used, with pick up of full bins now at three times per week. The pilot project will be evaluated in April, with next steps to be announced shortly thereafter.
This project is a partnership of the Regional Disrict of Kitimat-Stikine, the City of Terrace, Geier Waste Services, and Do Your Part Recycling. Recycling moves us in the Zero Waste direction endorsed by the RDKS Solid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Advisory Committee (PMAC). See attached flyer for more details on items accepted and location.
Beyond Recycling
