Zero Waste News

  • A pilot Community Recycling Depot has been up and running since late November 2011 by the George Little House in Terrace. Materials accepted include mixed paper and cardboard products, metals, and mixed plastics. Organic (compostable) material such as yard waste and food scraps (no meat and oil) are also collected at the site.

  • It's Waste Reduction Week in Canada! Not sure what to do to mark the occasion? Why not watch a fun, indie movie about zero waste? The Clean Bin Project will be showing for two nights only in the Hazeltons - Wed. Oct 19 at the Gitanmaax Tri-town Theatre and Thurs. Oct. 20 at the New Hazelton Meeting Centre. Both shows start at 7pm. Afterwards, sign up for the Great Garbage Race!

  • Bold Salvage and Recycling from Terrace in partnership with the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) provided a "curbside" scrap metal recycling service during May and June. To date, 420 tonnes of metal from over 40 properties have been collected. All metal is processed in Terrace and then shipped by rail to Washington State. Nice work everybody!

  • The RDKS and the City of Terrace have teamed up to offer up to 200 residents of the Greater Terrace Area a unique opportunity to be part of a Zero Waste Challenge and Curbside Recycling Pilot Project.
