The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) would like to collect glass as part of community recycling efforts, beginning with Terrace and the Hazeltons. We estimate glass to represent 1.5% of all materials landfilled - approx. 583 tonnes/year for the entire region.
A pilot Community Recycling Depot has been up and running since late November 2011 by the George Little House in Terrace. Materials accepted include mixed paper and cardboard products, metals, and mixed plastics. Organic (compostable) material such as yard waste and food scraps (no meat and oil) are also collected at the site.
