Re: Evacuation Alert – Old Remo and New Remo

Due to the above normal snow levels and precipitation, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is alerting citizens to the potential for serious widespread flooding.

The Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert for Old Remo and New Remo. Please see Evacuation Alert and maps at https://link.rdks.bc.ca/flood.

Should an Evacuation Order be initiated, a reception centre has been identified at the Thornhill Community Center at 3091 Century Street in Thornhill. Sandbags have been stockpiled and are available at the Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department 3128 Hwy 16 East.

The Regional District will provide updates on local radio stations, website and social media pages as we receive them as well updates can be found on the Emergency Management BC website: https://www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca/flood-warning-issued-for-stikine-river-and-tuya-river-june-2-2021/

At this time residents and businesses in low-lying areas and areas which have experienced flooding in the past should take steps to flood proof their structures, including moving valuable items to higher ground, finding alternate locations for livestock, and finding alternate accommodations should the need for evacuation occur.  Information regarding flood preparedness, including the proper methods of sandbagging can be found by visiting https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery/preparedbc/know-your-hazards/floods
