Pontoon Creek Wildfire #R50969

Update: 5:00 p.m.

Kitsumkalum Band and the RDKS have been informed by BC Wildfire Service that the Pontoon Creek Wildfire #R50969, located near the south end of Kitsumkalum Lake, is under control.

Fire activity has been greatly diminished, and crews are establishing a hoselay around the fire to allow for water delivery along the entire perimeter.

The previously closed campgrounds in the area (Hart Farm Recreation Site, Kitsumkalum Provincial Park (Goat Creek), Red Sand Lake Recreation Site, and Ackerman Point Recreation Site) are now open. 

Please be cautious in forested areas, and remember that there is still a province-wide ban on campfires.

On the evening of July 15, 2024, the RDKS was informed by BC Wildfire Service about the Pontoon Creek Wildfire, located near the south end of Kitsumkalum Lake.

Crews are currently working on site. Campgrounds in the area are inaccessible until further notice, including the Hart Farm Recreation Site, Kitsumkalum Provincial Park (Goat Creek), Red Sand Lake Recreation Site, and Ackerman Point Recreation Site. We remind the public to please stay out of the area and let the crews do their work.
