Upper Thornhill - Water Quality Advisory
Posted on 03/11/2026

The Thornhill Community Water System Woodlands reservoir is scheduled for necessary cleaning and maintenance March 13 to 20, 2026. This reservoir is the water source for Upper Thornhill.

It's critical this work is completed to keep the Thornhill Water System providing high quality water. As a result, a water quality advisory is in effect for Upper Thornhill until further notice. A few items to note:

- The water quality advisory notice will be in effect until we receive satisfactory lab test results. We don’t anticipate that this will be for an extended period of time, however, we will advise when it’s complete.

- Higher turbidity (cloudiness) levels may occur.

- As a precautionary measure, people with weakened or undeveloped immune systems may wish to: boil water for at least one minute and let it cool before using; use bottled water; or, use an alternative approved source of water.

- Elderly people, pregnant women, children under the age of two, people with AIDS, cancer, diabetes or kidney disease and people being treated with immuno-suppressing medications are encouraged to use the boil water method during this timeframe.

- Chlorination will be used as part of the cleaning process and may be noticeable in the water. Chlorine levels will be kept within the guidelines recommended by the regulating authority, the BC Water and Waste Association. An activated carbon filter, like a Brita filter, can be used to help with taste and odor.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience!
