The Thornhill Water System serves customers in Thornhill, from the Copper Mountain Subdivision through the Queensway, Churchill Drive and bench area.  The system relies on:

  • Two deep wells in the Copper Mountain Subdivision,
  • A reservoir on the hillside along Old Lakelse Lake Road,
  • A reservoir on Thornhill Street,
  • A booster station mid-way up the bench along Old Lakelse Lake Road,
  • A smaller reservoir and fire pump at the Thornhill Junior High School,
  • Water mains of 100 mm to 300 mm diameter.
What is Water Conservation
Conserving your water use means only really using water for household use,  and being mindful when you do your watering:
- Avoid irrigating a lawn or garden between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m;
- Hand-watering gardens is allowed at any time.
 
In addition, you can conserve water by:
-Preventing water from going onto an adjacent property, a driveway, highway or other surface,
- Avoiding running water continually to prevent your water lines from freezing and,
- Repairing any leaks in your system. 

Water Restrictions
Water restrictions are implemented when required to conserve drinking water. Watering restrictions help ensure that residents continue to have a high-quality water supply to provide for residential consumption and fire protection.

Water Quality
Your drinking water undergoes routine water quality analysis to ensure that residents are provided with clean, safe water. Residents of Thornhill can take pride in their drinking water. It continually meets or exceeds quality standards set out in the BC Drinking Water Protection Regulation BC Drinking Water Protection Act and the Canadian Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality health-based parameters.


System Flushing
The Thornhill water system is flushed regularly to refresh water in the system. There are two types of regular flushing:

Dead-end flushing-Linear lines that are not looped (dead end) are flushed the first week of every month to refresh stagnant water.

Full system flush -Every valve in the system is operated annually and a uni-directional flush of the system is performed to remove sediment. This typically take 2 weeks.
