Some RDKS services to be closed for national day of mourning

Facility and Service Closures, Sept. 19, 2022

In response to the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the federal government has announced that Monday, Sept. 19 will be a federal holiday and a national day of mourning. The Province of British Columbia is acknowledging the federal holiday and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) is following this direction.

In recognition of the national day of mourning, most non-essential RDKS services will be closed on Sept. 19, reopening the following business day, including:

  • Regional District Main Office, 4545 Lazelle Avenue
  • Works & Services Thornhill Office, 3128 Highway 16 East
  • Thornhill Animal Shelter, 3856 Desjardins Avenue

The Upper Skeena Recreation Center will operate on regular scheduled hours. Essential RDKS services will also be available on Sept. 19, including:

  • Thornhill and Greater Terrace Area curbside organics, recycling & garbage collection—as per the regular 2022 Collection Schedule
  • Solid waste facilities, including the Thornhill Transfer Station and Forceman Ridge Waste Management Facility—as per regular scheduled operating hours
  • Water and sewer services – emergency response only; call 1-800-360-9189
  • Thornhill Fire Department – emergency response only; facility will otherwise be closed to the public.
